Virupaksha Temple, Hampi is one of those paintings that carries a very personal memory for me. I painted this plein air watercolor from outside the main temple complex, standing directly in front of this magnificent, centuries-old monument.
It was the middle of the day, with intense sunlight and tremendous heat—a challenging environment for a watercolor artist working on location. The strong light, warm stone, reflections in the water, and towering temple architecture created an incredible scene to capture in watercolor.
Today, this Hampi painting remains one of those artworks that takes me straight back to that moment—the heat, the light, the ancient architecture, and the experience of standing there with my paints, observing Hampi firsthand.
As a watercolor artist, painting historic places directly from life is an important part of my journey. Through my India on My Easel series, I document India's architecture, culture, light, and everyday life through plein air watercolor.
Original painting, fine art prints, and art prints of this Hampi artwork are available for collectors who would like to bring a piece of this historic place into their own space.
