Painted plein air on the streets of Jew Town, Kochi, this original watercolor painting captures a remarkable moment of change in the environment. I began painting under intense tropical sunlight, but within minutes, the weather transformed dramatically as a thunderstorm arrived with heavy rain. Painting through this sudden transition made the experience unforgettable.
The changing light, wet streets, reflections, old architecture, and movement of people all became part of the painting. What makes this original watercolor art especially close to my heart is the incredible response and affection people showed toward the painting while I was working on it. Somehow, amid the heat, rain, and constant changes around me, I managed to capture this moment directly on location.
As a watercolor artist, I love these unpredictable plein air experiences because they allow the painting to become more than an image—it becomes a memory of a particular place and moment. This Kochi street painting is a personal record of my time in Jew Town and one of those rare paintings that carries the atmosphere, energy, and emotion of the day I painted it.
